Amici Cannis Animal Hospital has a lot of news to share! Things are changing in our foundation and we want to make sure everyone knows about them! A brief history for those who don’t know can be read on the following link: https://www.facebook.com/pg/amicicannisusa/about/?ref=page_internal
We are so proud of the work we have been able to do and we feel that the fate of our street dogs has changed dramatically over the last 7 years, we want to continue these efforts with your support!

  • We have a new name and a new mission – we have evolved and grown so dramatically over the last 2 years – it was time to have our mission reflect who we are and what we are doing! We are now Amici Cannis Animal Hospital and our mission.
  • We have extended our hours and services at the hospital! We are now a fully functioning animal hospital, the only one fully equipped in the province. All of the services that you use for your beloved pets generate money that is given directly to the street dog program – we are officially a non-profit and we exist to raise funds to care for the street dogs. In providing services to you and your pets – we are supporting this effort.
  • Our new hours are: 8am-5pm Monday – Friday and 8am-3pm on Saturday. You have two options to use our services – Walk in during these hours and we function as first come first served OR you can schedule an appointment on our Facebook page through our new Book Now Button! https://www.facebook.com/amicicannisusa/
  • Please remember that emergencies take precedence whether you walk in or schedule an appointment – the most critical patients are always attended first!

  • When in doubt – just head to the hospital – we are there to greet you and your pet during our scheduled hours. If you have questions about our services you can call (06) 291 4466 during business hours. We will likely request you come to the hospital with your pet for us to be able to assess what medical care is needed and we cannot give medical advice over the phone or by FB Messenger.
  • We are fully equipped to handle most anything your pet needs: Spay/Neuter, Wellness care including vaccinations and routine preventatives, Dentistry, Orthopedic and Soft Tissue Surgeries (elective or emergency), Gas anesthesia, Digital Radiographs, Ultrasound, In house Laboratory equipment and more. We have Dr. Marcela Pineda as our Medical Director, Dr. Heather Steyn, Dr. Beth Mangia, Dr. Alan Ledis and Dr. Calvin Rice as volunteer North American Veterinary Consultants for cases and support in the clinic that are used and enlisted as needed.
  • Though most people know our Medical Director, we thought this would be a good time to introduce her and tell everyone a little bit about her. Dr. Marcela Pineda graduated from University of the Americas in Quito in 2014. She then went on to work at an animal shelter in Ambato and PAE (Protection Animales del Ecuador) Ambato. She also has experience working with organizations such as RADIOVET in Quito, SAVE in Ibarra and DOG&CATWALK in Quito. Dr. Marcela has also had the opportunity to do Internships at several hospitals in the USA. She has been the Medical Director of Amici Cannis since 2016.
  • We are also proud to introduce a new full time addition to our Veterinary team Dra. Ana! Dra. Ana comes to us from Quito where she studied veterinary medicine and then worked in the PAE (Protection Animales del Ecuador) organization as a veterinarian for 2 years. You will see her performing spay/neuter surgeries, accompanying Dr. Marcela in consultations and generally helping with all the care of the animals in the clinic. Make sure you get to say hello to Dra. Ana and welcome her to our hospital!
  • We attempt to keep a well-stocked Veterinary Pharmacy including Flea and Tick preventatives and other medications. Some of this is dependent on availability in Ecuador but we do have a steady stream of supplies coming from the United States. Please seek our help if you are in need of supplies or medications for your pets. We will do our best to fulfill your needs. We have access to prescription diets (Royal Canin) as well as premium pet foods for special health needs. Let us help you determine what diet is right for your dog or cat.
On behalf of Dr. Marcela, Dr. Ana, the entire staff and volunteer team of Amici Cannis, we want to thank you for the continued use of the services we provide, thus supporting our street dog program and low cost services for the needy pets of Ecuador!
