“Itchy” Adopted January 2014

There is a special place in our hearts and homes for the street dogs of Cotacachi. Here’s one of them!
Tracey and Peter had an adorable street dog adopt them in January of 2014. When he first moved in, he was constantly itching himself. He had missing patches of fur and scabs from all of his scratching. After a little TLC, a vet visit to find out he has an allergy to fleas, and a little time “Itchy” has flourished!

He is now healthy, knows some tricks, walks well on a leash, travels great (on the backseat of the truck) and finally plays fetch with sticks. He loves the river but not the ocean. Tracey and Peter say “We love him and can not image life here without him!”

World Stray Animal Day Parade April 4th, 2014

On April 4th Amici Cannis organized and participated in the World Stray Day Parade. Through the parade in Cotacachi we increased awareness of the stray dog issue worldwide. The entire community was encouraged to participate and we had many participants from people walking their dogs, a few classes of kids from local school (all the kids wore animal ears) and even a teenage dance group who did some dancing at the final destination. We handed out animal balloons along the parade route, and a news station was there to interview us at the main park in town. We had approximately 100 community members participating in this event.
