Amici Cannis Hospital & Foundation is a non-profit organization (registered 501c3 in the US and Non-profit in Ecuador) that seeks funds to provide low-cost sterilization and health care to animals in need in the city of Cotacachi, Ecuador and surrounding communities.

Full-Time Hospital Manager

Job Summary

The Hospital Manager is a leader and an integral member of the veterinary hospital management team. The Hospital Manager partners with the Managing Veterinarian to provide a smooth and profitable operation by driving revenue and managing costs while creating a hospital culture based on high quality patient care and exceptional customer service. Responsibilities include managing, planning, and coordinating the overall operations of the hospital, and cultivating a supportive and collaborative team environment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Planning
    • Acts as a champion for change and identifies, documents, shares, and promotes best practices.
    • Participates in the planning and budget maintenance process.
    • Establishes goals for the practice and staff.
    • Creates the hospital schedule and manages labor costs to budget.
  • Operations
    • Oversees employee benefits program and hospital insurance plans.
    • Develops and implements hospital policy, including DEA/Controlled Substances and OSHA compliance.
    • Performs quality checks and reviews of client files.
    • Monitors computer systems and works with HelpDesk to resolve technical systems/equipment issues.
  • People Management
    • Partners with the Managing Veterinarian to address staffing needs including hiring, training, reviewing, and disciplining of staff.
    • Implements performance-based incentive and rewards and recognition programs.
    • Manages staff, including grooming and boarding staff if applicable.
    • Tracks and maintains current licensure for all DVMs.
  • Client Service
    • Demonstrates and reinforces the highest level of client service
    • Resolves client issues and escalations, and oversees client follow-up communication.
    • Drives client visits through strategic client communication and local marketing efforts (i.e. Community).
  • Financial | Financiero
    • Ensures payroll is accurately completed and submitted for all hospital staff.
    • Manages accounts receivable and cash on hand, including performing invoice audit reviews.
    • Manages hospital inventory and controls facility and administrative costs.
    • Performs other duties essential to the performance of the hospital as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or similar degree is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a manager role, including customer service experience.
  • Experience in a veterinary hospital setting in positions of increased responsibility is a plus.
  • Advanced level or Fluent in English and Spanish (verbal and written)
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in the following areas:
    • Multi-functional operations including budget and labor management.
    • Manage time and tasks appropriately and remain flexible with assigned duties.
    • Supervisory and leadership experience.
    • Reporting and data analysis.
    • Problem solving and resolution management skills.
    • Oral and written communication skills.
    • Basic computer skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office suite (Previous practice management software knowledge preferred: Avimark).
    • Interpersonal skills with staff and clients and works well in a team environment.
    • Customer service strategies and effective marketing techniques.
    • Human Resource policies and protocol development and implementation.
    • Staff management including coaching, developing, and motivating staff.
    • Conducting performance appraisals.
    • Delegating responsibility and achieving results with hospital team members.

    • Model a professional and courteous manner with staff and clients.

Full-Time Veterinary Technician

Job Summary

The Veterinary Technician is an integral member of the veterinary hospital technical and customer support team. The vet technician partners with the veterinarians to provide high quality patient and customer care, ensures the hospital equipment is operating properly, maintains cleanliness standards at their highest levels, and keeps patients records up-to-date. This position requires excellent communication skills, teamwork skills, and customer service skills as well as the ability to speak Spanish and English.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Client Care
    • Responsible for completing patient intake paperwork and recording everything in the computer system.
    • Responsible for speaking with the client to determine any health issues and answering questions about the procedures that their pets will undergo.
    • Responsible for updating clients on the post care of their pets.
    • Educating animal owners on home care and nutrition.
  • Assisting with Examinations and Diagnostic Procedures
    • Provide assistance to the veterinarians by taking vital signs of the animal.
    • Bandaging and wrapping wounds.
    • Assisting during routine consultations.
    • Recording everything in our computer system.
  • General Operations
    • Supporting general operations by assembling required supplies and instruments.
    • Preparing animals for surgery.
    • Securing and bringing animals to the examination room.
    • Restraining animals and providing assistance as directed.
    • Maintaining a safe, secure, healthy, clean, and humane environment by sterilizing and wrapping instruments.
    • Sanitizing and disinfecting holding and operating areas.
    • Storing sterile supplies.
    • Verifying shelf life of medicines, supplies, and other perishables.
    • Following standards and procedures.
    • Complying with legal regulations.
  • Assist During Surgeries
    • Assemble required supplies and instruments.
    • Setup surgery table instruments.
    • Restraining animals.
    • Operating and monitoring anesthetic machines.
    • Hooking-up ECG monitors.
    • Preparing surgical sites.
    • Placing catheters.
    • Cleaning-up post-surgical sites.
    • Maintaining sterile conditions.
    • Obtaining and verifying medications.
    • Recording everything in our computer system.
  • Feed and Care for Animals
    • Responsible for caring for all animals in the hospital as well as any animals waiting for foster or adoptive care.
    • Feeding and watering hospitalized animals.
    • Cleaning animal’s rooms, cages, and equipment.
    • Changing cages.
    • Reporting any clinical signs of disease in the patients.
    • Recording any information in our computer system.
  • Maintain Supplies and Equipment
    • Responsible for maintaining equipment by following operating instructions.
    • Troubleshooting breakdowns.
    • Maintaining equipment supplies.
    • Performing preventative maintenance.
    • Calling for repairs with the approval of the veterinarians.
    • Informing the board via email.
  • Update and Maintain Records
    • Updating patient’s files and recording all records in our computer system.
    • Maintaining animal records by documenting animal conditions, reactions, and changes and updating all information in our computer system.
  • General
    • Responsible for performing the daily duties as described herein as well as their daily duties assigned by their supervisor.
    • Must be courteous and amiable, punctual and professional in manner and appearance, work as a team, stay up-to-date on computer and technical skills and fulfill all duties and responsibilities.

  • Applicants must be bilingual in Spanish and English (speak, write, and read).

  • Be quick learners and independent thinkers that can make the right decisions when needed
  • It is extremely important that the aspiring applicant can work as part of a team as well as independently on his/her own.
