Amici Cannis is committed to educating future generations about compassionate care and treatment of dogs and cats. With our One Health approach, we recognize the interconnectedness between animals, people, and the environment. We incorporate issues that affect animal and human health into our educational materials, provide information and resources, and help children and adults understand what it means to have a peaceful and healthy coexistence with animals and their environment.
Amici Cannis is committed to educating future generations about compassionate care and treatment of dogs and cats. We offer educational programs for all ages and abilities including humane education programs for Indigenous Peoples, a Pre-Vet Internship Program for students in Ecuador, and an externship program in collaboration with Tufts University.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Education and thanks to a generous donor, we launched a pilot program in public schools across Cotacachi in 2023. The program was designed for children aged 8-10, and aimed to cover four main public schools in the city. We surpassed our initial goal by reaching 850 students and teachers with our Be Kind education program in only three and a half months. The success of this pilot program has motivated our initial donor to fully fund the second year of the program, allowing us to expand our work in 2024 into new schools and additional classrooms, and to reach students as young as six years of age.
As part of our strategy to bring access to care to indigenous villages, we organized workshops in situ to address responsible guardianship practices with individuals of all ages and teach safe and healthy interactions with dogs to avoid bites.
When you teach an individual to be kind to animals, you pave the way to a brighter future for all living beings. Animals benefit because the next generation will treat them with respect and compassion. Children benefit because learning compassion and empathy builds moral character, reduces violence, and strengthens their sense of empowerment and responsibility. Society as a whole benefits when members respect and care for one another, and the animals who live among us.
Amici Cannis’ humane education programs teach children and adults how to be caring, thoughtful, respectful stewards of our world. Programs include workshops and school presentations.
