Did you know that most people around the world do not own a carrier to transport their kitties safely?
Amici Cannis works in communities that live in systemic poverty. These families cannot afford a cat carrier, or access to veterinary services for their animals. Our team has gone door to door in the indigenous village of La Calera to help people get the care they need for their dogs and cats, and during the month of October we provided life-saving veterinary services to over 200 cats from indigenous villages around Cotacachi. Cats were brought to the meeting point to be picked up in mesh corn bags like the ones pictured above.
Following a lead from a neighbor, Amici Cannis’ Emerson and Gabriel located the burrow a mama dog made to keep her puppies safe from other animals and protected from the elements. The burrow, almost 6.5 feet deep, housed three puppies who were rescued and taken to the Amici Cannis’ hospital to receive life-saving veterinary care.
San Bartolo's little ones
Our “Be Kind” education program visited the small community of San Bartolo, near Cotacachi, to deliver a message of love and compassion to children and adults alike. What our team was most impressed with was the bond between the children of this very small indigenous community and their companion animals.
Our community dog program provides dogs like Maria with the veterinary care they need, when they need it.
Maria is one of Cotacachi's community dogs. She was spotted limping by one of her many caregivers who called Amici Cannis for help. Once in our care, Maria was spayed and vaccinated, groomed and treated for fleas. She was returned to the streets to the care of the many businesses who look after her.
