Brindle

Meet Brindle!

Brindle is a pup like many others in Ecuador. Born in an open field in the outskirts of the town of Cotacachi, she grew up being cared for by the children who go to a nearby school, and fed by individuals who live near the field. When Brindle was born, two of her male siblings were taken by individuals looking to welcome a dog into their families. When there is no access to veterinary care, and no alternatives to humanely stop reproduction, male dogs and cats are usually preferred and get adopted more quickly, while the females stay in the streets and continue to give birth to litter after litter of puppies. Brindle was no exception.

When the Amici Cannis’ team was alerted to Brindle’s situation by concerned individuals, the young dog had already had two litters of puppies. While this pup is not aggressive, she shies away from human contact, is fast and strong, and evaded most trapping mechanisms or devices we could think of to bring her into the hospital for veterinary care. Time after time, our team tried new and creative ways to trap the dog and were finally successful in safely capturing Brindle and bringing her into the Amici Cannis animal hospital to be spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, and checked for any issues affecting her health. We are thrilled that our Community Dog program, funded by donors like you, is able to provide dogs like Brindle the care they need to stop unwanted reproduction of litters and start a healthy, happy life.

The children and the many community members who care for Brindle are eagerly awaiting her return to the field where she provides the grazing cattle with safety, and the kids with a familiar face on their walk to and from school.
