Lassie

Meet Lassie!

Lassie was a 7 month old Shar Pei who was found wandering the streets of Cotacachi and brought in by a concerned community member.  Lassie was suffering from a severe skin disease which was causing open oozing wounds all over her body.  She apparently had been left on the streets abandoned, and suffering.

Using funds from our Emergency Dog fund, the Amici Cannis hospital was able to provide relief and care for Lassie.   After doing laboratory tests, it was determined Lassie’s skin condition was Demodex, which is not harmful to humans, but can cause significant discomfort, skin infections and hair loss in dogs. The hospital immediately started treatment on Lassie with medical baths and oral and topical medications.  Lassie was in the hospital at Amici Cannis Hospital for over a month, where she had time to heal and be showered with love and care from the entire Amici Cannis team.

In addition to treatment of her skin condition, the hospital also sterilized and vaccinated Lassie with funds used from the Amici Cannis Community dog program.

Lassie made a full recovery!  Since Lassie is a Shar Pei, her breed requires extra care since they are prone to skin conditions, therefore returning her to the streets as a community dog was not an option.  Amici Cannis Hospital was able to successfully find her a forever home.  Today Lassie is living the best life ever and she is loving being part of a family and receiving the ongoing care she needs to stay healthy.
